With Dark Rise, although I didn’t absolutely love or particularly bid my time for all the different POVs, I will say that they lent themselves screen time. It waters down my connection and makes it harder to root for someone if I’m constantly being shifted. Only because I find myself invested in a certain character and want to know about their POV and storyline, and adding so many different perspectives loses that connection.

Usually, I’m not a fan of stories told from multiple points of view (more precisely, 2+ POVS).

  • James, whose dark magic and ruthless cunning make him a foe to fear and admire.
  • Katherine, a girl whose aspirations to secure an auspicious marriage put her right in the heart of danger.
  • Cyprian, a powerful Steward-in-training who is searching for his lost brother.
  • Violet, a girl forced to turn against the only family that she’s ever known.
  • Will, a boy on the run after his mother was killed.
  • Told from multiple points of view, all the characters in place add to the layers of this complex and dark story.
